TAUPO CHAMPS 2018

Taupo Champs - Full results coming soon. Congratulations to Brendon Lyon 1st, Lloyd Strutters 2nd, and Gareth Godfrey 3rd.
Thank you to Johannes Krill for organising this event! Taupo championship 2018/2019. Held on Lake Kuratau on the 8th and 9th December 2018. A popular event as Lake Kuratau holds many fish. A small hydro lake with fluctuating levels provides challenges “on the day” as one doesn’t know the lake level before you see it on the first day. The lake is shallow and when levels are up the fish venture in what was very shallow margins, where trout cannot get to at low levels and is full of food. The angler that masters the right technics will do very well in these circumstances. On the day of the competition the lake was full and everybody was looking forward to some good sessions. The weather was kind too with a cloudy, sunny sky and a nice brise on the Saturday. On Sunday perhaps a little too kind with a bright sky and no wind. This made it a little harder for the 3rd session on Sunday morning. All in all a good number of fish were caught and a good time was had by the participants.
Brendan Lyon and Lloyd Struthers Had strong sessions on the first day and continued to do well into the third session. Were the field below changed somewhat during the sessions as the fish numbers varied in each session. Congratulations to the winners which are as follows: First place and the new Taupo Champion is Brendan Lyon, followed by second place Llyod Struthers and Gareth Godfrey in third place. A great result for our junior angler Hugo Pearce who took the the price for the biggest fish (54 cm) and came in 6th overall. Well done.
Our sponsors for the event were METHVEN TAPS and ROD and REEL tackle. The winners appreciate their new showers and their new equipment. Thank you for supporting SFFNZ.
